🔑 Newport's New City Centre Bollard System

Our team at CK Communications is helping to deliver a modernised bollard system designed to keep Newport city centre moving safely and efficiently. As regeneration continues across Newport, these new bollards form part of a wider effort to create a safer and more welcoming urban environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.

This new access control plays a key role in:

• Reducing unauthorised vehicle access

• Improving pedestrian safety

• Supporting public services during emergencies

How it Works

Whilst the bollards themselves are the most visible part of the project, the real magic happens in the infrastructure that supports them (which is where we come in!)

CK Communications is installing and configuring the CCTV and intercom systems that will keep the bollards operating smoothly day-to-day. Using fibre connectivity, we're ensuring that every access request and every bollard camera feed is delivered instantly and reliably.

We're big believers that while access should be secure, it shouldn't feel like an obstacle course. Therefore, when approaching the site, drivers simply pull up to the relevant bollards and use the Commend intercom at whichever height suits their vehicle - one unit is positioned for lorries, the other for cars. Once the operators verify the visitor, the bollards will lower and access will be granted.

A Collaborative Effort

Projects like this only happen when everyone pulls in the same direction. We're proud to be working alongside:

• Kordel - delivering the civil engineering and installation work

• ATG - providing specialist bollard systems and hardware

We're currently completing work on the fifth bollard site, with many more planned across Newport in the months ahead. As the rollout continues, we're excited to see the positive impact this project will have on the city centre.
